Cyclelodge PSA: Spring is here and we would like to remind people to check their cleats before heading out for a ride.
Worn road cleats can pull out of the pedal at inopportune times bringing the “naughty bits” as they would say on Monty Python, dangerously close to the top tube. During spirited efforts such as climbing or a sprint, riders have hit the pavement when the foot pulls out of the pedal. We know of a guy who was taken down and broke his collarbone because of this. I’ve had someone pull out next to me during a ride and it’s one of those Oh $#*& moments. So check your cleats and replace them if worn. You might just save some skin in the process.
